This circle features three notable guest speakers:
- Salima Ebrahim (Chief Of Staff for the City of Edmonton),
- Haiqa Cheema (Ministerial advisor to the Attorney General of British Columbia), and,
- Lori McConnell (Executive Director, Suit Yourself-Wardrobe for Women Association).
With this event, we're launching our series of advocacy circles centering around "Expression in the Workplace." This three-part series will discuss topics including: the role of identity in defining "professionalism" in the workplace, how the safety of women and gender minorities is impacted by their self-expression, and the importance of freedom of expression in the workplace.
Part I (Feb Advocacy Circle) is a discusson on how we define “professionalism,” and how this definition involves racial, gendered, and classed forms of discrimination. Our speakers will articulate the relationship between beauty standards and power at work, as well as how your appearance - and the extent to which it deviates from “traditional professionalism” - might impact how you show up in the workplace.
